On 1 June 1992, 57 Squadron reformed at RAF Lyneham, operating the C-130K Hercules.  Later, in 1999, 57 Squadron undertook the preparatory work for the introduction into RAF service of the C-130J Hercules, before the Squadron was disbanded again on 14 March 2002.

Having reformed on 1 July 1992 No. 57 Squadron operated Lockheed Hercules aircraft under the command of Wing Commander AM Morris. Command passed to Wing Commander JS Wilson in January 1994 and then Wing Commander RD Jenkins in December 1996.

The final CO during this era was Wing Commander PM O’Meeghan from July 1999 until 14 March 2002 when the squadron was again disbanded.
