57 Squadron, Tiger Force.

From January 1950 and through the period when the squadron operated Avro Lincoln B2, Boeing Washington, and English Electric Canberra B2 aircraft, it was commanded by Wing Commander PM Brothers.

Disbanded on 25 November 1945, 57 Squadron rose like a phoenix from the ashes the following day when 103 Squadron’s Avro Lincoln Flight was re-numbered as 57 Squadron.  In May 1951 the squadron converted to Boeing Washinton (B29) aircraft, before entering the jet age in May 1953 when it re-equipped with the English Electric Canberra.  

20 February 1946

Lincoln B.1 serial RF385 of No. 57 Squadron lost control in cloud and crashed near Barsby, Leicestershire, all seven crew being killed. The crash was reported in the Daily Herald of 21 February 1946, which reported that it crashed 1 mile east of Queenborough, near Leicester.

19 March 1947

Two further members of the squadron were killed on 19 March 1947 when York C.1 serial MW198 of 51 Squadron flown by Flight Lieut. Stewart Andrew Anning DFC & Bar crashed in Sri Lanka.
